THE FORGOTTEN TEMPLE
King Rama III was watching the decline of the Chinese junk boats as the era of the steam ship had dawned a new way of moving large heavy loads along the rivers. It was the Ayuthaya period and the king decided to build a monument style temple to recognise the importance of the boat and the Chinese traders in Thailands early history. This temple has long ago disappeared from the tourist scene and yet lays so close to the river and Taksin BTS its hard to understand why, after all we always hear the hidden gem question. Historically there is not much to say about the temple. Three name changes, the last after the Chedi was built and it houses a museum. A statue of King Rama III along with the normal Buddha images make this temple almost feel in some ways understated. The Architectural appearance though does make it worth a visit, especially if you are staying around Sathorn or the riverside or Bang Rak areas. Made from concrete I doubt it will ever be seen making any river journeys but maybe its one you will journey too.
Don’t ever underestimate what Bangkok has to offer you. It is such a misunderstood city. The phrase you only need 48 hours in Bangkok is one that should be reserved for the staunch beach goers only. Everyone else should take time to explore Bangkok. I think over the last few weeks we have shown you that just the temple section alone will take you 48 hours let alone anything else.
Khanom taking you around our home and exploring Thailand with you.
